This webfont belongs to the SanSerif family similar to poppins and was developed by a Warsaw based designer named Lukasz Dziedzic. The world Lato is derived from the Polish language meaning summer. The webfont was published in December 2010 under the Open Font License with support from Google.
During development of Lato, the designer carefully balanced some potentially conflicting priorities. The designer was looking forward to design a font that was transparent especially when used in a body text. It would be able to display original traits especially when its size is increased.
The designer used classical proportions in order to give the letter forms familiar harmony and elegance. The rounded details of the letters give the font a warm felling while its strong structure portrays stability and seriousness.
